Don’t Say Alvida (Main Aur Mrs.Khanna)

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

Have been pretty busy for a while now with a variety of things on my plate. Was not planning on recording anything but heard this one on MTV and couldnt resist myself ! Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics, beautiful tune, beautiful voices – what more do you need ! Melody still rules !! The song is from the movie ‘Main Aur Mrs.Khanna’. Sajid-Wajid has composed this chartbuster which has already topped the Bollywood top 10 list in most websites. Sonu Niigam and Shreya Ghoshal have rendered this in their own sweet way. Must say they are the Kishore-Lata of this age. What amazes me with these two singers is how easy it sounds when you hear the song and yet when you try to sing it you understand how difficult it is to get the small things right. Amazing duo ! I hope they live a 100 years to give us more of such music pleasure.

Vidyu has been kind enough to lend me her vocals to complete this one. She sounds absolutely amazing. I bet Shreya would be very happy to hear her version :-) I am a little bit rusty but i hope you will still lend your ear to listen to our humble attempt.

The movie just released on the occassion of Diwali. Here’s wishing you all a very happy and prosperous Diwali. Khub mithai khao aur khilao :-) God Bless and thanx for listening :-)

MJ, this one’s for you – Team Sonu Niigaam

Monday, August 31st, 2009

About 2 months back, Smitha Passanha informed me about a tribute that Sonu Niigaam was organizing for Michael Jackson and that he was looking for singers to participate in this effort. I sent in one of my MJ covers (Beat It) and ended up being one among the intial 6 chosen singers. I was thrilled to say the least and at the same time extremely humbled.

This project is a true testimonial to the fact that the world is shrinking thanks to the Internet. The vocalists were spread all over the world (Canada/US/UK/India) and each of us recorded our vocals remotely and sent it in. The song and the video was then compiled and mixed by the team.

The whole experience was just mind blowing and definitely the biggest project I have been part of thus far! The whole team did such a great job in every respect!!! Special thanks to Sonu for envisioning this project and more importantly following through on it and coming up with a truly fitting tribute to MJ!!

Official release story was done by Kavita Chhibber and can be found here

Audio will be available on iTunes shortly.

Khamoshiyan Gungunane Lagiin from 1-2-ka-4

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

This is a relatively less known number by Rahman from 1-2-ka-4. The movie bombed at the box office I guess, but had some good melodies- including this one and sona nahi na sahi. Found an excellent karaoke track for this one on an esnips page… and it was a long pending idea to do a duet with fellow blogger Rajesh Raman and it somehow never took off until this one.

Needless to say, Rajesh is remarkable. One of those singers who we should be lucky to have here, among us. A little about the original: A sensational duo, Sonu and Lata have sung this. Lata, despite the shake and all other age related factors sounds so expressive. I wish I could isolate her singing from her voice…

Sonu: Amaaazing as always. Check out a live version by them at the Unity of Lights concerts with Rahman here: Sonu is adorable! :-P

Now, here’s our’s :-) Let us know what you thought. This was recorded a long time back- we kept going back and forth on mixes… finally decided to pick the best one and put it up… Many thanks to Rajesh’s friend Arun Varma for his efforts in mixing this.
